Prayer

God, give charge to Thy blessed angels,
To keep guard around this stead to-night,
A band sacred, strong, and steadfast,
That will shield this soul-shrine from harm.
Safeguard Thou, God, this household to-night,
Themselves and their means and their fame,
Deliver them from death, from distress, from harm,
From the fruits of envy and of enmity.
Give Thou to us, O God of peace,
Thankfulness despite our loss,
To obey Thy statutes here below,
And to enjoy Thyself above.

Shame

It is not in our strengths and wonderful qualities that we meet Christ. Our egos are so impenetrable at those points that such a union is impossible. If we will accept that little shame, we will meet the Crucified Christ at that very point, for it is He who bears our shame.

But the vulnerable stage of shame is the place where our ego can break free and where it can admit the existence of another. But this is extremely hard because the instinct of shame is to cover itself and hide. Therefore we are asked to “bear a little.”

Shame is the ego’s deepest instinct and the first recorded reaction of man after the Fall. It is the dread of being seen for who we truly are rather than who we want or pretend to be.

But there is a self that is deeper than the shame. It can be found if we are patient and we stay still for a little while. Which is hesychia and nepsis, stillness and sobriety.

This self can be described as the “place of the heart”. In this place we can stop judgement, not critique, not to measure, not to compare. It is a place where we will find union with God and the ability to pray. It is also the place where the tears of repentance can be shed.

All of this is the patient, an inner journey of repentance and the gateway into the Kingdom of God. It unites us with Christ’s bearing of the whole Adam’s shame ,the shame of the whole of humanity, which is known as His crucifixion.

What does it mean to fear God?

I often hear people explain the fear of the Lord as a mere respect or reverence. But I feel as if respect or reverence does not come from fear but love. The subject becomes even more confusing to me when I read something like 1 John 4:18 that says that "perfect love expels all fear." How can we fear God while he expels all fear?

Pray first and then see if it’s worth talking about

Often times I find myself worrying about the outcomes of many situations. Every time I have a problem or something is heavy on my heart  I call Micah and ask him what he thinks I should do and what he thinks would be the best way to handle the situation. Before entertaining my rant about whatever it may be at the moment he says:
Did you pray about it?”
I found an underlying problem with this question. Not because it’s a bad thing, but because too often my answer has been no. There has been too many times that I’ve found situations to weigh less as much as I think they do, simply because I haven’t prayed about it.
Because we are called to serve Christ in this deranged world,  we have to be mindful that prayer is a big part of that. People are just as carnal and doubleminded like you are, so if you find yourself putting your faith in them and not in God… don’t.
Prayer is used as a form of communication with God. When we don’t communicate with Him, we can’t discern God’s voice (not physical) from the rest. We spend hours and hours worrying about whatever we’re going through instead of spending time crying out to the One who’s going to make you stronger because of it.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:6
The only way we are able to gain more knowledge and understanding is to ask God. I’m not saying that it’s wrong to call on your friends for guidance. It begins to be a problem when they’re the only ones you fall back on.
All this to say, take full advantage of what God has to offer.
Pray first and then see if it’s worth talking about
